A LITTLE GUIDANCE

Missing the familiar Launchpad?

Find your apps when the familiar Launchpad grid is missing. Understand the built-in Apps view, Finder, and Sofla’s separate Launchpad-style launcher.

Start with the apps you already have

If you cannot find the familiar launcher after a macOS update, it does not necessarily mean your installed apps are gone. First distinguish a changed way of opening apps from an application that is actually missing.

There are two separate questions: “How do I open this app now?” and “How do I get a visual launcher I prefer?” Start with the first, then choose an interface that suits you.

Try the built-in Apps view

Apple’s current documentation puts app browsing inside Spotlight. Click Apps in the Dock, or open Spotlight and select its Applications view. Search for the app name and press Return, or click an app icon.

Follow Apple’s current app-opening instructions for the exact controls on your version of macOS.

This is the quickest option to try if you simply need to open an installed application. It does not require Sofla or a new download.

Check Applications in Finder

Open Finder and choose Applications in the sidebar. If the app is there, try opening it directly. That helps separate an app-discovery problem in a launcher from an app that cannot start.

If the app is absent from both the launcher and its expected installation location, check how it was installed. A changed launcher layout cannot restore an application that was removed.

Do not delete system databases or change security settings just to make a launcher look familiar. Start with the visible app locations and documented controls.

If what you miss is the full-screen grid

A dedicated launcher is another option when your main concern is visual browsing and organization. Sofla offers a full-screen grid, folders, app-only search, and an independently arranged Favorites collection.

It is a separate native app. It does not switch Apple’s old Launchpad back on, replace a macOS system component, or automatically recover the old grid arrangement.

Sofla currently targets Apple silicon Macs on macOS 26 or later. If your Mac runs macOS Sequoia 15 or an earlier version, this build is not compatible. See download availability and installation. The browser preview is available regardless of whether your computer can run the eventual native release.

Choose the next step

If the built-in Apps view works for you, you may not need another launcher. If you want to arrange a full-screen grid, explore Sofla’s Launchpad-style experience.

If you want a wider command workflow, start with the Mac launcher comparisons. If you are already using a native Sofla build and one particular app is missing, use the Sofla troubleshooting guide to check hidden apps, filters, and search locations.
