FIND YOUR FIT

Sofla vs Alfred.

Compare Sofla’s visual Mac app launcher with Alfred’s keyboard search and workflows. Understand their scope, free features, and different ways of working.

A visual home or a keyboard command center

Sofla fits people who want an arranged app grid with optional typing. Alfred fits people who want a keyboard-centered search workflow that can extend into automation. Both can help you get into an app, but they organize that experience differently.

This is a comparison published by Sofla, not an independent product review. Sofla requires Apple silicon with macOS 26 or later. You can explore the interactive preview now.

When the app grid is the point

Sofla is a better fit for the specific goal of having a visual place for your installed apps. You can browse a folder when you do not remember an exact name, or rely on a stable icon position for something you open often.

Typing still works immediately. Search for an app, use the arrows to move through results, and press Return. The native app also supports search aliases, so the name you type can match how you think about the tool.

Favorites do not replace the main arrangement. You can place an app in a folder and keep it accessible from a separately ordered Favorites collection. That is useful if you want a broad library and a small everyday set.

When Alfred’s wider scope matters

If you already use Alfred for tasks beyond opening apps, replacing it would mean evaluating those workflows too. The decision should include the actions you depend on, not just the appearance of the first search result.

Alfred’s free core is relevant if your immediate goal is basic launching and search. Powerpack is a separate consideration for its additional features. A comparison should not treat every Alfred user as a paying automation user.

Sofla does not claim a benchmark advantage over Alfred. There are no side-by-side timing or memory measurements on this page.

Try without rebuilding your setup

Use the Sofla preview to test the difference between browsing a grid and entering a query. Try a folder, select a result with the arrows, and check Recents after a simulated launch.

If you later use both native apps, assign different shortcuts so they do not compete for the same key combination. The keyboard guide explains Sofla’s controls. If you mainly want a familiar full-screen grid, read the Launchpad alternative overview.
